Ps- that is the best commercial EVER!!! And my friend edited it!!!
But I have some solutions.. I felt like I was missing the gym too much, so I joined a second gym near my house- one that's only $10bucks a month!
Even if I only get there a few times a month, it will be worth it. Last week, I went there twice and I worked out 5X. I also started going back to spinning and I love it. And I have some other interesting news... some of you know I've never done yoga. Yep, never done it. Well, there was a Groupon for Bikram Yoga near my house so I bought it! 10 sessions- $20bucks! Now I need to make sure I go! Luckily I have a friend who also has never done yoga who bought it as well : )
So let me show you my workouts!
Monday May 2nd- Lunchtime workout- 2 miles on the treadmill, 45 min spinning

And Today- Speed Tuesday! My first speed workout since the marathon!!!
I get my workouts from a local running group that adapts them from the BAA-
This weeks workout didn't seem intimidating to me since there was a lot of 200s. Plus I'm not in marathon training (yet) so I was excited to do a shorter interval speed workout even if I do have to do them on the treadmill....
Workout: 4x200, 2x400, 800, 2x400, 4x200 (equal Rest Interval)
1 mile at 10 min pace.
4X200s with 200 rest in between each one at 54 (7:14 pace), 49 (6:34 pace), 48 (6:26 pace), 54 seconds (7:14 pace).
2X400 at 1:51 (7:26 pace), 1:47 (7:10 pace), 400 rest.
800 at 3:51 (7:44 pace). 400 walk, 400 jog at 6.0.
2X400s at 1:48 (7:14 pace), 1:44 (6:58 pace), 400 rest.
4X200s at 47 (6:18 pace), 45 (6:02 pace), 44 (5:54 pace), 43 (5:46 pace) with 200 rest.
.25 mile cooldown (ran out of time!)
6.25 miles, 60 minutes.
If you are curious- I measure distance on the treadmill and time on my handy $10 watch from target. I write down those times as I go during the workout and then plug them into the Pace Calculator on Cool Running later on. Pretty cool I ran some 200s at 5:46 pace.

Questions for you- How often do you workout each week? What do you consider a good week or a bad week? AND Have you done Bikram Yoga? What can you tell me about it?!?!
I'm with you - 3 days would be a light week for me. I aim for 4-5, though with finals this week it will definitely be less! Purchasing an elliptical for home has been a totally saving grace for keeping up with a workout schedule, esp with my bad running knees. It was an initial expense but will repay itself in a year!
ReplyDeleteYoga is amazing - it will change your life! One thing I will say is be patient with yourself in the beginning. For most people it takes time to get to know the poses and to get used to stretching, moving and breathing in the ways they ask you to. The first month I did yoga I kept saying I was "bad at it" but I really just needed time to adjust. It's not about "doing it right", it's just about being in the moment and doing your best each class.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your husband - that is a HUGE accomplishment, I bet you are incredibly proud of him!!
What, What?? I won??? YAY! I never win!! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteI am off an on with yoga, and I recently lost my favorite yoga dvd! I have a lot of friends who go to Bikram Yoga, and they really really like it. I hear it's a great workout.
Hi! Did you join PF Natick?? I thought you mentioned it was near your house, no? It's my lunch time workout gym - I almost always go when I work out of my office - so worth the $10/month!
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the recent workouts! You will LOVE yoga! :)
I workout 5 times a week, a good week is 6, bad week is 4. I truly feel sluggish if I don't workout 5x a week. I've never done that type of yoga, but I have done regular yoga and I am a fan of doing it every now and then, especially when I'm sore or worn out.
ReplyDeleteI think 3 days is fine. I would never judge anyone else's workout schedule. Not everyone is hardcore about working out. At least they're trying. I aim for 5-6 days, but if I get 3, so be it. I'm not going to turn into a heffer overnight.
ReplyDeleteI used to workout six days a week like clockwork, but it got tiring and I felt like I was constantly struggling to fit everything in. Now I workout 4-5 days a week. I'm trying to get better about cross training, but I never miss my runs!
ReplyDeleteGo Dave!!
A long commute and husband can get in the way of my workouts. The husband and i did join a gym close to home so we go together
ReplyDeleteYOGA! LOVE.love.LOVE. be prepared to be HOT, like really HOT, and sweat profusely, but don't worry everyone else does too. Bring a towel, water, and enjoy yourself. Try not to pay attention to how good/bad everyone else is, focus on you (and breath).
ReplyDeleteAs for working out, you've seen my training schedule, but, I definitely will skip a PM workout for fun--which is why the AM workout is crucial for me.
Congrats to Dave!
aww congrats to Dave! what a smart husband!
ReplyDeleteYay, congratulations to DAVE! I'm so happy you are going to try yoga, but I can't believe you are starting yoga with BIKRAM! I can't wait to hear what you think of it. At this point I don't think I could run injury free without Yoga (I probably could, but I don't really want to attempt it :)) I would recommend going to another, non hot yoga class (maybe just one at BSC) first to get the hang of it. Also, nice speed work out! I'm going to need to add that one in...thank you for sharing all of them, it's so helpful for me!! I hope all is well, miss you xoxoxox
ReplyDeleteOooo, I'm not a fan of bikram. Too hot for me, I feel like I can't breathe. You should try to do the yoga at Hill, Laura is great, and makes beginners feel really comfortable.
ReplyDelete$10 a month is amazing! Between that and the couch in your office, I'm moving in with you :)
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm on a six-day-a-week plan but it varies depending on what I'm training for.
Bring lots of water to Bikram - and if you hate it the first time try it again before you give up!
I shoot for 5-6 days a week. Good week 5; great week 6; bad week 3 or less.
ReplyDeleteYou kicked ass on the treadmill today. Impressive!!
I love Bikram! I usually go once per week and always feel great afterwards. You will probably HATE your first session (i think the detox your body goes through from sweating takes some acclimation), but I promise it will get better and you'll love it too :)
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to read you are getting into Yoga! I have to warn you though, Bikram Yoga is VERY unique. It's always the same (a series of 26 poses and breathing exercises), its HOT and its intense. I love hot yoga but I much prefer a power flow yoga class to Bikram. It took me a few classes to like the Bikram style too, so BE patient with yourself and try not to get discouraged. If you find after a few that you really aren't loving Bikram, try another style. You will find your flow :)
ReplyDeleteALSO and these are important: bring lots of water, a change of clothes for after (trust me), a LONG towel to cover your mat and a small towel.
Congrats Dave! And congrats to you on your marathon!
Let us know what you think about Bikram!
I LOVE Bikram. My sister got me into it about a year ago. I'd tried several times over the past 10 years or so to get into "regular" yoga, but it just never did anything for me. When I started running, I found that I was really tight all the time, so I finally decided to see what my sister was raving about. It's seriously the best thing ever. I can totally see the difference when I .
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your hubby, very exciting!
ReplyDeleteI aim to work out 5 days a week, 6 if I'm training for a big race. It doesn't always happen though... :)
Congrats to your hubby! I try to work out 5 days a week, 6 is ideal and 4 is disappointing!
