Courtside Celtics & Speed!

What does being courtside at the Celtics look like? Let me show you.
 Ray Allen for three!
Oh hey Rondo, what's up buddy...
Are they walking towards me? I think so!
 Nice pick- Go Rondo!
Oh and then Big Baby inbounded the ball right in front of where I was sitting.  I could seriously touch him.  It was amazing.
So needless to say I feel pretty lucky.  Lucky that I have a friend named Stephanie who works for such an amazing company and is offered tickets this fabulous.
When Stephanie gets offered these elusive tickets it's usually very last second and although she's invited us before, we haven't been able to go.  Yesterday, she got offered the tickets early and invited us.  From 11:45am until (NO JOKE) 4:30pm, Dave snowblowed our driveway so we could get out. (Dave is a DIE-HARD Celtics fan btw.  Like he DVRs and watches every game, even blowouts!)  We ended up taking the train into the city around 5 and surprisingly, there weren't any delays.
But back to the game... we sat courtside, directly across from the Celtics bench.  No one infront of us but the court.

Pretty cool right?  The game ended up being a blow out and my favorite player, Paul Pierce led the team in points! Thank you Stephanie for taking us, it was such an amazing experience!!!

Needless to say, I didn't wake up to hit the gym before work today.  But, I did have time to go during lunch.  I decided to do the Speed Workout that I was originally going to do on Tuesday. It was a build-down workout:
1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400, 200 with 200 meters rest in between.

I liked the sound of this workout for two reasons- it started with the hardest and finished with the easiest AND we only got 200 meter rest which I knew would make it REALLY challenging.

Again, 200s are pretty difficult to measure on a treadmill, but I've explained my trick here.

Speed Workout 1/13/10
1 mile warmup, 6.0mph, 1.0 incline, 10 minutes
1200 meters (.75), 7.2mph, 1.0 incline, 6:04
200 meter walk/jog (this is where I drank water and wrote down my spilts)
1000 meters (.50+.375), 7.3mph, 1.0 incline, 4:59 minutes
200 meter walk/jog
800 meters (.50), 7.4-7.6mph, 1.0 incline, 3:58 minutes
200 meter walk/jog
600 meters (.25+.375), 7.5-7.7mph, 1.0 incline, 2:52 minutes
200 meter walk/jog
400 meters (.25), 7.7-8.0 mph, 1.0 incline, 1:49 minutes
200 meter walk/jog
200 meter all out, 10.5 mph, 1.0 incline, 43 seconds
.50 mile cooldown (in a rush)
4.5 miles in 43:20

I've been getting a couple questions/comments on how slow I do the rest in between sets.  And here is my opinion: After I finish a distance, I set the treadmill for 3.0mph so I can easily put my feet on the sides and write down my splits.  This usually take about 100 meters or 1/4 of a .25 mile.  Then I get back on the treadmill and jog very slowly (anywhere between 5.0mph-6.0mph for me) until I get to the next set.  Another trick- a little before I hit the next distance to start the interval, I set my speed to where I want it to be during the interval.  It takes the treadmill a few seconds to adjust to the new speed so this adjusts it for me!  Make sense?

This was another great speed workout.  I really liked it- you guys should try it!

Have you ever sat courtside at a game? Do you enjoy speed workouts?

  1. I'm SO jealous of you! Courtside at a Celtics game would be so much fun...even though I'm a Spurs fan.
If I have to run on a treadmill I would take a speed workout any day. It seems to make the run go by faster.

  6. Celtics - so fun! I've only been to one game but would love to go to another some day. Live sporting events are the best.
I like how you started with your longest distance on the speedworkout and worked backwards - I think it's easier that way!

  7. Looks like so much fun! I have never been to a Celts game, nevermind courtside! What an experience!

Nice speedy run today. I was so sore from yesterday that I did a pretty random run - 7 miles between 6.2 and 8.0. It was hard, but I look forward to trying this workout another time.

  9. Wow! Those are amazing seats. What a great way to experience the game. I have never sat courtside, but I have sat right behind the goal, two rows back, at Bruins games before. My fiance's dad has season tickets, and we go every once in a while.

  12. I was at this game too! I didn't have courtside floor seats but wasn't too far behind you, row 11. Wish I knew you were there, would have stopped over to say hi! Glad you had fun, was a great game!

  13. Cool! I think I'd be scared to sit courtside. I love football so it's kind of my dream to sit behind the Giants' bench so I can offer them inspirational words of advice. Because I know they'd listen ;)

Great job on the speed workout! They're my favorite!
