I stole Three Things Thursday from Melissa Nibbles. She partakes in this every week and I always look forward to it. I often think of my own to write, but I'm usually too big of a wimp to actually post. But this week, I'm in the mood. In case you don't know, this is a list where I get to complain about the things that have been annoying me this week. So here we go.
1. "My thoughts and prayers are with you." Is this just something people say when they don't know what else to say? I guess I just 100% do not understand this line. To me, it's just words with no meaning. If you're going to go out of your way to write me a card or send an email during this difficult time, please come up with SOMETHING more meaningful to write.
(I know this makes me seem like an ungrateful bia@$#tch. But I'm grieving. And receiving notes with that phrase and nothing else makes me angry.)
2. FACEBOOK THINGS....
- Facebook and Pinterest. I am so happy that you FINALLY discovered the beauties of Pinterest my dear Facebook friends, BUT, you really need to uncheck the button that you share all your pins + who you're following on facebook. Because I DON'T CARE. And you're clogging my News Feed.
Here is a perfect example and just so happens to be at the top of my News Feed currently.
See that button in the lower corner when you repin? Uncheck it. Please.
You could also turn off linking to other outlets. It's annoying.
- Facebook and Babies. Yes, I know I'm pregnant and I should be all about pictures of 'friends' cute baby pictures all over facebook. But I'm not. I find it annoying and wish these people would start baby blogs instead of posting a million of the same iPhone pics to facebook. Use facebook for the good stuff; the pictures where your baby looks adorable and does something worth mentioning. Otherwise, you are just wasting my time. On the same note, when did all my 'friends' have babies? I wake up to a constant newsfeed of Mom's complaining about their babies lack of sleep, or gas issues, or a million other problems. Again, I wish the moms on fb would find a new outlet to relay this information on ... I don't know... a BABY forum or Twitter.
- Facebook and Food. Melissa touched on this on her post today and I couldn't agree more. Even more, I really can't stand when people take unattractive photos of their dinners and post it to facebook like it's the biggest thing they've ever done. Congratulations, I eat and make dinners every night too.
3. Commuters. I have two pretty big pet peeves that I talk about wayyy too much.
- First, as most of you know, I commute from the 'burbs into the city daily. I am part of that large crew of people that walk to and from South Station every day. I am not however, part of the idiot crew that like to follow each other across big intersections during rush hour traffic without paying attention. This drives me NUTS. You're leaving work and still have work to do, I get it. You're looking at your blackberry while walking, I get it. But then you cross the street even though the light is green because you saw another idiot doing the same? I don't get it. I witness people almost get hit by cars daily. And I have to ask - What's the rush? Is that extra 30 seconds really going to kill you? Well, it might.
- Second, I really, REALLY do not understand why people on the train feel the need to stand up and line up LONG before we reach our destination. This morning I was sitting in the first set of seats next to the door. I was getting off at the next stop. I was sitting on the outside. AKA, I have control. Person sitting next to me says "Excuse me" way before we get to the station. I kindly say, "I'm getting off here too and I'd like to wait for the train to stop." I know this bothers people but again, is it really necessary to stand in a line waiting to get off the train when I'm in the first seat? I mean when the train stops, I will get up and get off the train too. Plus the train never stops gracefully and people always go flying forward so I'd rather sit safely in my seat until it comes to a complete stop : )
Alright, you're turn. What's annoying you this week?
I like sharing my pins on twitter because i feel like there is so much randomness on twitter already, stumbling upon cool things from pinterest is welcome. Facebook? Not so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd then train thing? I'm with ya! I always wait for the train to stop. You will get off the train on time. I promise! No need to get ready like 5 minutes ahead. :)
I guess my friends are good about keeping their pinterest and FB separate, because I honestly haven't seen any of that going on! But you're not the first I've heard complain, so I trust that people are out there are doing it. It would annoy me too, for sure. And I'm totally with you on the "thoughts and prayers" thing. I avoid that line because, well, I don't pray very often. And I don't believe that when people say that, they are actually praying. Unless everyone out there but me is praying... and I doubt that. I'm a fan of sending ((hugs)). So more big virtual ((hugs)) to you, my dear!
ReplyDeletevirtual hugs are way better than virtual praying, hehe. And you're so LUCKY you're friends aren't pinning all over facebook. It's all I see in my newsfeed!
DeleteI'm with you on the train thing. That happens on the bus too, which I take daily. I don't get it why people find the need to get up from their seat when the next stop is so far away!
ReplyDeleteamen to the pin thing, keep that crap away. and you do what you do, girl, it's your blog and your life and you just....do it. and I think I'm an offender of #1, but for me, it means I stopped what I was doing and sent a prayer that your grief would not last forever and you'd find a way to celebrate his life instead of being drowned by the loss. xo.
ReplyDeleteI think I probably said something to the effect of #1 to you (although I'm quite sure I didn't say prayers because I'm not religious) but I think it's just because I didn't know what else to say and I think lots of people feel this way.
ReplyDeleteYes, to the pinterest thing! Also to spotify. I don't care what you're listening too!
I thought of another one - i'm sick of reading blog upon blog about what people are giving up for Lent!
ReplyDeleteUgh, commuters are the worst!! I've just started seeing pintrest spillover on fb and can see it getting out of control. The baby posts are also getting a little too frequent... but I don't really fault anyone for talking about what they want to via social media (whether it be their meals or being up all night with an infant). We all voice our interests to some extent... and I suppose people can choose not to follow or hide my comments if it's not up their alley!
ReplyDeleteI love that your getting all this venting out!! For #1, I've always kind of hated that phrase too, but it's definitely the thing people say when they don't know what else to say but yeah I get what you're saying.
ReplyDeleteI think #2 is funny. I think, as bloggers, we get exposed to all these "cool" social medai tools, and apps before the rest of the world catches on...I feel like the past few weeks have been "are you on pinterest?" like its this brand new thing they just discovered. Yes, yes I am, and have been for a while now. Luckily (thankfully) none of my FB friends have that box checked because that would be so annoying to get their pins on my FB feed!
I think the same rings true for the food pictures...like they dont want to blog but have recently discovered that "trend" of tkaing pictures of their home cooked meals, however boring they are! Yeah that one annoys me too, and the pictures usually look like crap!
The baby pictures haven't really bothered me but its more that most of our FB friends are all the same age, and now's the time for babies! But yeah, some are pointless.
Oh the train! I've actually been taking the express bus more lately so havent been on the train as much but I agree with everything!! The other one that always annoyed the crap out of me was going home in the evening, getting to North Station, and everyones just crowded around waiting for them to announce what track the train is on. Then there's those people who THINK they know before its announced and start heading down the track while the rest of us wait for the announcement. Whats the point!? Plus I've seen that happen before and turned out they were wrong (I secretly hope for that all the time haha), then once its announce everyone's shoving to get to the train...calm down people, if you're at the station when it boards you're not going to NOT get a seat. Chill.
Ok I'm done now :)
this comment made my day. Your train comment. Yes. This. Agreed.
DeleteI used to have soo many commuting pet peeves. I hated when people stood in the aisles of the train 10 minutes before getting to penn then not following the unwritten rules of how to get off the train. I hated the person who wasn't a normal commuter who screams on their phone early in the morning. Don't they realize that NO ONE talks on the morning train. This week my beef is with people telling me I am HUGE. Duh, I know that, I have to carry it around and my feet hurt. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteLiz, train stuff, YES! OMG and the baby thing. I don't like telling people when I'm due. Best response- "Oh that's so soon!" The response I get the most, "Woah, thats a ways a way, you're going to be huge!" I should write a post on what not to say to a pregnant girl but I think I scared enough people away with this post!
Deletelol - I 100% agree with all of your points! I was just thinking today how annoying it is that I keep getting pinterest posts in my FB newsfeed..and also what they are listening to on spotify..and the babies! The thing that annoyed me today was Ticketmaster not finding a way to stop scalpers. I went online at the exact moment concert tickets went on sale to the public today (after a pre-sale yesterday) and they were sold out. Then I went to craiglist and there were 36 listings from scalpers selling tickets for double! Now I can't see Fiona Apple, who has been in hiding for the past 5 years!
ReplyDeleteomg, i don't even know how people have time to 'pin', but i'm sure glad it hasn't shown up in FB! OMG, don't even get me started on the train. I even have issues with people walking. What I don't get is why "stay to the right except to pass" isn't also applicable when walking as opposed to just when driving.
